"The Next Generation" - Apricot varieties of the future

Here we can present you absolute novelties and offer trees for experimental cultivation, which have attracted attention by a special fruit quality in the last years.

Since we have a very good standard apricot range anyway and about 20 new apricot varieties are introduced to our pilot plant every year, we can set particularly strict standards for the 'The next Generation' variety group:

  • The fruit quality must be particularly suitable for fresh market, but should also be suitable for processing.

  • The varieties should be self-fertile. This has the advantage that they produce safe harvests even in bad blooming weather and can therefore be thinned out more specifically during the blossoming - which in turn is very good for tree health. You can plant large blocks of self-fertile varieties for a more efficient harvest. If a new variety is not self-fertile, it must have attracted attention through special tree health.

  • Flowering should start late: Orangered is our benchmark here; varieties that flower earlier are not pursued further, even with good fruit quality.

  • High tree health and disease resistance: Some varieties are already sharka resistant, the first varieties with Pseudomonas resistance (bacterioses are a major cause of apricot tree death) are already being tested or are intensively crossbred with them. A variety from the proven range that meets many of these requirements is Bergeval®: excellent in taste, suitable for both fresh market and processing, very late flowering, self-fertile, plum-pox resistant,.....
